英文單字攻略大揭祕

背單字一定要搭配前後文來記,同時搭配字彙英文字意,才能勞固記住!

背單字常常是讓學生退卻厭倦的部分,甚至是擊垮對學習興趣的最後一根稻草。PEI特別就此,與大家 分享對單字的學習看法與實務教學經驗。期望這篇分享讓學生及家長有所獲益。

首先我們認為,國內的教育太注重死背單字,往往是課本一攤開來,就要學生反覆背誦拼音與字彙的意思。但拼字與字彙是息息相關的,不應拆開來強記,而是應該合併起來理解。PEI採用「聲學」(Phonics)教學法,也就是以聲音為基礎進而教拼字的作法,奠定學生良好的發音與拼字(spelling)基礎。

在課程中,PEI以大量的圖片介紹英文單字,以圖像輔佐理解,更有助加深記憶。音樂也是很重要的學習工具,每星期老師們透過流行歌曲選歌分享,帶領學生從歌詞中學英文,更開放學生提議歌曲。畢竟,填壓式教學已經不敷時代的需求,營造豐富活潑、充滿互動的課程才是真正理想的學習之道。

讓學生親自嘗試、鼓勵學生從錯誤中學習更是很好的不二法門。例如,課堂中學生們說「close」the light,便可藉機糾正為「turn off」the light。在面對陌生的單字時,太平洋英語強調「Scaffolding」的概念,這個字代表著建築房子時外部需先架設的腳手架,比喻學習應該是按步驟堆疊向上的。在教學上,老師先示範,再帶領學生自己嘗試。例如,在閱讀課文時,老師會念第一段,接著和學生念第二段,第三段就由學生自己念。讓學生透過模仿老師的節奏、語調及發音,漸漸培養出自己的實力。

同義字(synonym)與反義字(antonym)
最後,單字學習還有個重要技巧,也就是搭配同義字(synonym)與反義字(antonym)的學習,透過比擬、對比加深對單字的印象與認識。另外,老師在教學上應鼓勵學生發揮想像力,從單字延伸,創造脈絡與故事,如此將比僅僅死背多了許多樂趣,更能事半功倍的達到學習的效果。
